Bedi Port, historically known as Bedi Bandar, is located on the southern shore of the Gulf of Kutch near Jamnagar in Gujarat, India. The port has deep historical roots as a maritime gateway, having served as the principal port of Nawanagar State during the British period. Today it operates as a Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB) controlled all-weather tidal lighterage port, classified as one of Gujarat's established minor ports within the broader GMB network that handles approximately 488 million metric tonnes of cargo across the state annually.
The port's infrastructure consists of three GMB jetties, four private jetties and eight captive industrial jetties, totalling fifteen operational berths serving different cargo categories. Vessels typically anchor approximately 7 nautical miles offshore at an anchorage with a maximum draft of 16 metres, and in some cases up to 30 metres within port limits. Cargo is then transferred by lighters in two to three hour tidal working windows at the main Bedi jetties, while Rozi Pier operates round the clock. Covered storage at Bedi includes six godowns of approximately 6,455 square metres, with twenty-eight additional godowns of 15,120 square metres at New Bedi Port. The port is served by GMB tugs Pirotan (4,000 BHP) and Gurjari (1,880 BHP), plus additional harbour tugs.
The primary import commodities are coal from Indonesia, fertilisers, rock phosphate, palm oil, corn, soyabean, clinker and pig iron, while exports include petcoke, cement, clinker and salt. The GSFC captive liquid jetty handles liquid ammonia and phosphoric acid imports for the Jamnagar fertiliser industry. Annual throughput is approximately 4.4 million tonnes handled across around 126 vessel calls, within an installed capacity of 6 million tonnes per annum. The port is connected to Jamnagar city by road with medical facilities available in the city approximately 25 kilometres from the port. Crew change is permitted at Bedi for all nationalities except certain restricted countries.
